Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC)

The KBR/ExxonMobil FCC alliance combines proven KBR FCC technologies with advanced ExxonMobil features.

ATOMAX-2™ Feed
KBR’s ATOMAX-2™ Feed nozzles feature 43% smaller droplet size than leading ATOMAX-1™ nozzles. This provides 5 times more droplets in any given feed volume. The ATOMAX-2™ nozzles provide better coverage of the riser cross section by maintaining a flat fan-shaped spray pattern. In addition, the ATOMAX-2™ ensures more uniform atomization across the spray because of the consistent droplet size achieved. The nozzles have 10-15% lower pressure drop than ATOMAX-1™.

Riser Quench Technology
KBR Riser Quench technology increases the mix zone temperature by 25 to 50 degrees F. The higher mix zone temperature improves heavy feedstock vaporization, and improves gasoline octane. The increased temperature lends to higher cracking severity (Cat-to-Oil ratio), and gasoline sulfur content is reduced.

CYCLOFINES™ Third Stage Separator
KBR CYCLOFINES™ TSS Technology is designed to more easily meet MACT-II particulate emissions criteria. This advanced design provides for less than 50 mg/Nm3 particulates in the flue gas, and lower flue gas opacity. This will extend turbine blade life and help achieve higher average turbine efficiency. The design features a proprietary cyclone dust outlet device. This technology is well suited for installation as a grassroots TSS, or an existing TSS can be revamped with these proprietary improvements.

MAGNACAT™
MAGNACAT™ Technology uses high field strength permanent magnets to continuously remove the older, less active, most metals-laden catalyst from the FCC circulating inventory, thereby increasing activity and improving selectivity. The advantages include reduced catalyst usage and reduced disposal cost, as well as increased throughput and improved yields.

DYNAFLUX™ Stripping
The KBR DYNAFLUX™ Stripper Technology addresses 2 problems seen in conventional strippers; high local catalyst flux and poor lateral mixing. The primary features include proprietary Flux Tubes™ and Lateral Mixing Elements™. This design reduces hydrocarbons by approximately 80% compared to conventional stripper designs and may achieve 6% or less hydrogen in the coke.

MAXOFIN™ FCC
Key MAXOFIN™ product features include flexibility to maximize propylene or liquid fuels. This helps the customer to respond to market prices as necessary. The max propylene mode can deliver more than 20% C3, but the system can also operate as a conventional FCC unit. MAXOFIN™ also features new generation MAXOFIN-3™ additive, with Orthoflow™ FCC hardware.
